Multilayer thin-film coatings for optical communication systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent developments in thin-film coatings for optical communication systems are reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to thin-film designs with dispersion related to the photonic crystal superprism effect. A single dispersive coating may be used for multiplexing or demultiplexing several wavelength channels by spatial beam shifting. 2004 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (310.0310) Thin films, (060.2340) Fiber optics components; (260.2030) Dispersion

A Review on Titanium Nitride and Titanium Carbide Single and Multilayer Coatings Deposited by Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition
In this paper, we reviewed researches about the titanium nitride (TiN) and titanium carbide (TiC) single and multilayer coatings. These coatings were deposited by the plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) technique. Plasma-based technologies are used for the processing of thin films and coatings for different applications such as automobile and aerospace parts, computer disc drives,...
متن کاملThe concept of using surface structures in lieu of multilayer thin film coatings to control reflections from optical surfaces
Light reflecting from instrument panel and center console automobile displays is distracting to drivers and necessitates overhanging dashboard designs that take up valuable interior space. A recent trend toward displaying increasing amounts of information with navigation and communication systems, has compounded the significance of light reflection. The conventional anti-reflection (AR) techniq...
متن کاملEvaporated HfO2/SiO2 Optical Coatings and Modifications for High-Power Laser Applications
Evaporated optical coatings fabricated from hafnium dioxide and silicon dioxide are the standard approach for high-peak-power laser components due to the high laser damage resistance of such coatings and the ability to deposit on largeaperture substrates. The tensile film stresses of such coatings may lead to failure, however, particularly in low-relative-humidity purged or vacuum use environme...
متن کاملMultilayer thin film coatings for reduced infrared loss in hollow glass waveguides
Hollow glass waveguides (HGWs) are an attractive alternative to traditional solid-core and 2D photonic crystal, infrared transmissive fibers. Applications for HGWs at wavelengths longer than 2 microns include use of the guides for the delivery of laser power and for use as chemical and thermal sensors. To date, the most common HGW is one with an inner coating of Ag followed by a single-dielectr...
متن کاملDesign of antireflective nanostructures and optical coatings for next-generation multijunction photovoltaic devices.
The successful development of multijunction photovoltaic devices with four or more subcells has placed additional importance on the design of high-quality broadband antireflection coatings. Antireflective nanostructures have shown promise for reducing reflection loss compared to the best thin-film interference coatings. However, material constraints make nanostructures difficult to integrate wi...
